What is Esthetics?
Esthetics is a perfect area of the beauty industry for those who love skincare and helping others feel their best. The practice of esthetics covers a vast area of techniques that may include facials, waxing, chemical peels, and much more! Simply put, estheticians perform procedures that maintain skin health and appearance. Depending on how far you choose to take your education, estheticians can perform anything from the basics of skincare to more advanced practices in the medical side of esthetics.
What Will I Learn in Esthetician School?
Depending on your esthetician school and state requirements, what you learn in esthetician programs can vary. At JD Academy of Salon & Spa you can learn from passionate instructors who act as student mentors ready to teach you the skills you need to become a licensed professional in California. Our curriculum includes:
- Facials
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Hair Removal & Waxing
- Makeup Application
- Microdermabrasion
- And More!
Esthetician school can help you learn the training you need to sit for a state board exam that’s often required for an esthetics license. Our mission is to prepare successful future skincare professionals, and we’re always learning the latest and greatest, including light therapies, makeup design, and more.
How Long Does Esthetician School Take?
Each state has its own requirements for how long esthetician programs are, but they are typically shorter than the average cosmetology program. To get an esthetics license in California, you must complete no less than 600 hours of training, while other states may require up to 1000 hours. JD Academy’s esthetics program is the required 600 hours and can be completed in as little as 22 weeks, when on a full-time schedule.
Where Can Estheticians Work?
Since you learn plenty of things in skincare school, that can result in plenty of potential job opportunities after your training! Estheticians can enjoy working in a fast-paced, competitive, and highly-specialized field within the beauty industry.
Those who study at JD Academy of Salon & Spa often enjoy the relaxing, personal wellness aspect of their field, practicing in more of a spa or salon setting. They can provide facials, wax unwanted hair, and provide generally any skin-related cosmetology services that could enhance not only their clients’ skin, but the way their clients feel about themselves.
Advanced estheticians who have more training have a wider range of options and might work as skin care specialists alongside medical professionals. They often treat people with skin disorders or work close to the medical field, alongside doctors, nurses, and dermatologists in clinics. This will most likely require more education in medical areas outside of JD Academy, and isn’t guaranteed to every esthetics school graduate, but could still be the route for you!
