How to Balance Beauty School and Life

Once you’re enrolled in beauty school, the adjustment of this new schedule in your life can be tricky to maneuver. Finding ways to balance beauty school and your personal life is vital to manage stress and mental health. Keep reading to discover our best ways on how to balance your new schedule!
Stay Organized
One of the best ways to balance your school life and personal life is to stay organized. We know your life can get busy, and beauty school is another thing to add once you enroll. If you don’t stay on top of your schedule, you can quickly become overwhelmed. Organize your daily routine with planners, apps, or calendars. Some other ways to stay organized include:
- Clean your space: Your bedroom, living room, or kitchen–wherever you spend most of your time, make sure it stays clean.
- Create healthy habits: These can be habits like paying bills early or something small like making your bed everyday. Make these healthy habits through daily repetition.
- Make a plan: Use a planner or calendar to schedule your days ahead of time!
- Don’t procrastinate: If there are tasks that need to get done, do them as soon as possible. They often don’t take as long as we think they will!
Staying on top of your schedule and daily tasks can help you reduce stress and keep your life running smoothly.
Take Care of Yourself
Becoming a beauty professional allows you to help others feel their best, but you can’t do that if you don’t feel your best. Self-care is always important, but when you’re stressed it can make all the difference in improving your mental health. If you’re feeling drained, you can’t perform at your best levels and beauty school is that much harder.
You deserve to treat yourself when you’ve been working so hard. Grab your favorite dessert or take a long bubble bath after a long day at school. Find a hobby that takes your mind off of the craziness of life. Just take care of yourself!
Find a Support System
Surround yourself with people who will support you throughout your time in beauty school. This support can look different from the different people in your life. Some may donate to your tuition, others might just be someone to talk to when your days are hard. No matter how they support you, it’s important to find people who will uplift and be there for you.
Have a Positive Mindset
Life is hard. But what can make it easier is having fun and finding things that make you happy. Even on the toughest days of your life, there are almost always small joys you can look for. You should be enjoying your time in beauty school, so stay positive and focus on the bright side. There are so many benefits to being positive:
- Lower stress levels
- Better coping skills
- Social skills can improve
- Positivity often has an effect on your physical health
Positive thinking doesn’t mean that you ignore the stress in your life. Positive thinking just means that you approach your problems in a more uplifting and productive way. This means you think the best is going to happen, not the worst. Come up with constructive ways to manage stress. Find ways to improve your situation instead of letting your problems overcome you. Remember that it’s okay to have bad days, but to focus on what you can do to make them better!
Prioritize Sleep
Sleep is an important part of staying healthy. Many people forget about this important step in balancing their lives, but a healthy sleep schedule can make all the difference! If you’re staying up late and waking up early, chances are you won’t perform to your optimal level at school. Your mental health takes a toll when you don’t get enough rest, and small issues can seem huge when we’re tired.
Adults should be getting about 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. For some people this is hard. Maybe you’re a night owl who feels more productive at night. Or maybe you just can’t fall asleep because of all the things running through your mind. That’s okay! There are ways to train yourself to sleep better. For example, if getting to bed on time is something you struggle with, set a reminder of when to go to bed. Once you get used to this routine you’ll become better at getting your tasks done early enough to get to sleep on time!
Be Proud of Yourself
Beauty school is full of trials and achievements. Before graduation, you cross so many milestones and learn so many new skills! Overcoming those trials and adversity is how you excel. Remember to be proud of yourself because you are doing a great job. Be proud of how far you’ve come and the work you have achieved. Show yourself some self-love!
