JD Academy Students Providing Haircuts for Homeless

The JD Academy Student Team recently teamed up with the Concord, CA Homeless Shelter – spending their day giving haircuts to some folks who could use a little boost

When Patrick Regan, an MBA student at JFK University, reached out to Amanda Pinkham, one of our amazing JD Academy teachers, the conversation went along the lines of, “Hey. I’ve got this project I’m working on for my MBA and was wondering if you and some of the students at JD Academy might be interested in coming up to the Concord Homeless shelter and giving out some haircuts.” With no hesitation, our team was absolutely on board. The pieces came together and last Thursday, our student team and Miss Amanda provided free haircuts to over 20 very grateful men and women out of the Concord, CA shelter.  What a great day.  Patrick’s project allowed us to provide a needed community service and an incredibly rewarding, perspective-broadening experience for our students.

From Patrick Following the Event:

I would like to thank the senior leadership of West Academy for allowing Amanda and her students to participate in my MBA project. Amanda was highly professional and her ability to create a training environment in an unfamiliar setting was impressive. The haircuts, by far, made the evening by lifting the spirits of many struggling individuals.

The director of the shelter passes her sincere appreciation because haircuts are rarely donated. The director and students both shared a desire to have the opportunity to do this again.

I believe Amanda and the students left knowing that cutting hair is not only a way to earn a living but also a way to make someone feel good.

Again, thank you for your support.
