The cosmetology program at JD Academy of Salon + Spa was designed to prepare students to become future salon professionals. This hands-on program is led by experienced instructors who know what it takes to succeed in the modern beauty industry. From beauty fundamentals to business and marketing training, our curriculum is centered around career preparation.
From day one of our program, we want cosmetology students to develop their confidence as future beauty professionals. Our program is engaging and hands-on, whether you’re working on a client’s hair or participating in a group project. We’re here to help you develop the skills and self-confidence that will take you wherever you want to go.
Our hands-on approach can teach you how to create clean, precise cuts, perfect color mixtures, gorgeous blowouts, on-trend nails, and SO much more! Preparing you with clean, clear and precise foundational techniques that salons are looking for, allowing you to advance from student to salon professional.
Gain a thorough understanding of the business and marketing side of the salon industry, such as scheduling and maintaining a client-base, anticipating product needs and correctly predicting income.
Students receive detailed theoretical education to help prepare them to sit for the state board written exam. In 2022 the practical exam will no longer be required by the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Though, JD Academy will provide all students with a Practical Final Exam.
At JD Academy of Salon + Spa, we believe every student deserves individualized learning opportunities. Our low teacher-to-student ratio allows plenty of opportunities for you, the student, to work directly with seasoned mentors. In addition to receiving ample opportunities to practice your skills on real clients*, the program includes detailed theoretical education, business and marketing training, and mock state board exams. We want you to leave our school with the confidence and skills to tackle anything the beauty industry demands.
If you want to see yourself in beauty school but aren’t sure if you can add it to your budget, we’ve got you covered! As an accredited school, we can offer federal financial aid, available to those who qualify. Our cosmetology program is 1,600 clock hours, which meets the requirements of the California Board of Barbering & Cosmetology.
Senate Bill SB 803 was signed into law on October 7, 2021, by Governor Newsom, and it will become law on January 1, 2022.

JD Academy is currently offering a cosmetology program with 1600 hours – 600 more than the minimum that will be required by the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology in 2022.
In 2022 JD Academy will reduce the cosmetology program to 1500 hours – 500 more than the minimum that will be required by the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. The additional 500 hours will allow students the opportunity to continue receiving the cut, color, and style education and practical hands-on experience that exceeds the minimum state requirements. (This is subject to approval by the Bureau of Post Secondary Education, National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Education.)
